"If you think the story has a sad ending, it's because it's not over yet."
No Spoiler Summary:
Beach Read is a romance about an author, January (who also writes romance novels), and her college rival Augustus Everett. Unknowingly, Janie moves into her late dad's beach house (which is located conveniently next door to Augustus' house.) The two are thrown together multiple times by accident, and soon develop a friendship neither wanted.
They are both suffering from writer's block and strike a deal- they must each write a book in the style of the other. A serious book with no happy ending for January, and a rom-com / romance for Augustus. Whoever sells their book first (under a pseudonym or not) wins, and the other has to write a blurb for it (not under a pseudonym).
Will January and Augustus beat their deadlines? Who is going to win the writing challenge? You'll have to read to find out, and with beach season approaching - what better read can you possibly have?
Review:
I'm a YEAR LATE on this book, and cannot express how OBSESSED I am with Emily Henry. I read People We Meet On Vacation and immediately ordered this in my next Book of the Month box. I cannot recommend this book enough, as I devoured it in a day and cried when I was finished.
If you love a good romance, or a good enemies-to-lovers plot (GUILTY!) this is definitely a book you should grab yesterday. Not only can Emily Henry write, the characters are lovable and relatable, and you want them to achieve every dream they've ever had in their lives. I can see the lake and the porches and the beach house in North Bear Shores, I can smell the air, and this book made me want to relive my own love story. If you've read Beach Read what did you think?
Recommendation:
For fun enemies-to-lovers tropes:
*The Court Books by Sarah J. Maas
*The Red Queen Series by Victoria Aveyard
*The Girl with Stars In Her Eyes by Xio Axelrod
*The Bookshop of Yesterdays by Amy Meyerson
"And that was the moment I realized; when the world felt dark and scary, love could whisk you off to go dancing; laughter could take some of the pain away; beauty could punch holes in your fear. I decided ten that my life would be full of all three."
